Transcripts, Graduation Requirement Trackers & GPA

Questions about how Mrs. Wardle tracks your progress toward graduation requirements or about how your academic record is created? This page has information about Credit Status Cards and High School Transcripts.

Transcripts

What is a high school transcript?

A transcript is an academic record of courses taken and grades earned in high school

Who has a transcript?

Every student has their own transcript

How often is the transcript updated?

At the end of every school term (i.e. Trimester) once teachers post final grades for classes

What are the types of transcript?

Unofficial:

A type of student transcript that is "unsealed". The student and family are able to view and touch the document.

The most common reason to order an unofficial transcript is have a copy of personal reference

Official:

A type of a student transcript that is "sealed" or "tamper-proof". The student and family are not able to view, edit, or touch the document. The transcript can be sent as a sealed envelope that is mailed or as an electronic copy sent directly to an individual, school, or organization.

The most common reasons to order an official transcript are: applying to college/university, transferring credits from one district to another, or applying for jobs or internships.

Graduation Requirement Trackers

Transcripts show all classes passed and grades earned. However, they are not organized or split up by graduation requirement. This makes it impossible to interpret progress towards graduation requirements based just by looking at a transcript. That's where Credit Status Cards come in. Credit Status Cards are split up by graduation requirement so it's easy to see which requirements are completed, which ones are in progress, and which ones are still left.

Mrs. Wardle uses Google Sheets for her Credit Status Cards. Each student has their own Card, and it is shared with the student, guardian(s) on file, and BVA Advisor.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

What is a GPA?

High School Grade Point Average

Why is GPA important?

GPA is a measure of hard work, motivation, and how qualified you are

College and employers look at GPA to determine if they want to accept or hire you

Many Universities and scholarships want at least a 3.0 GPA

Is GPA calculated by individual term or cumulatively?

Both!

Trimester GPA - calculated by the individual term using trimester grades

Yearly GPA - calculated by the average of 1st Trimester + 2nd Trimester + 3rd Trimester GPA

Cumulative GPA - calculated by the average of all terms and grades

How does GPA work?

1 trimester = 8.3% of cumulative GPA

(12 x 8.3=100%)

1 year = 25% of cumulative GPA (4x25=100%)
